Story

From school to restaurant

Peter Matts first purchased land in what is now known as Paoli in 1846. He platted the growing village in 1856 and named it Paoli after a town near his Pennsylvania birthplace.

The one room schoolhouse was built in 1854, while the second room was added around the turn of the century. The Schoolhouse was last used as a school in 1972 by the Belleville School District.

The Schoolhouse was purchased in 1990 by Bill Hastings, then later in 1995 the space was rented to Debbie Schwartz which was then renovated into a shop. As Debbie’s business grew, she purchased the Schoolhouse in 2003.

Since then, she has grown her business to small shop to a full on restaurant, that is proud to bring their guest great American food, made with local ingredients.
